A little piece of Germany in Marina! Yelp helped us discover this place, but it's the great experience that keeps us coming back for more.
This is a small little deli inside a large shopping plaza. It's easy to miss but surely not something to pass up. When you walk inside, it truly looks like what you'd expect a deli to look like. You can order sandwiches, cold cuts, soup, and miscellaneous offerings that's inside the fridge case. Or grab some European/German goodies and snacks from the wall shelf on the other side.
We have tried the reuben, schnitzel, and poor boy sandwiches. I honestly can't put my finger on which reigns supreme. All three are delicious in their own right, it's truly just up to what you're craving at the moment. The unsung hero is their lemon chicken soup though. It's tasty and homey. We always take a big container home.
The staff is always extremely friendly and helpful. You are welcome to sample some of their cookies they set out, or ask to sample the soup, even some of the cold cuts. They even have head cheese, which tastes...interesting (lol).
Prices and portions are very reasonable, especially when you consider being able to experience authentic German food run by small business owners. Definitely worth a visit to try something unique! -

My parents grew up on eating Mecca sandwiches dating back 50 years ago. I also grew up eating the hot Ham & Cheese sandwich with everything on it (lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, mustard) as well. This place is so amazing that I always share this unique and classic spot with all my friends. I hope this place stays around long enough for my future kids and their kids in the years to come. We love this place so much and I believe every local in Marina does too.
Their sandwiches are consistently made with their sweet roll bread (ask for this with your sandwich) that literally crumbles in a good way when hot. The deli meats are always greatly portioned as well. Since this place makes every sandwich fresh using their oven for hot sandwiches, I recommend calling 10 minutes before to order your sandwich if you're sensitive with time.
With the friendly staff, any new person will always want to come back. -

The Mecca Delicatessen has been a Marina staple for decades. You can always rely on a friendly face to greet you upon entering and assist you with your order. The items that are for sale are a bit on the high side, but that's not unusual for high quality imported foods and goods. I've always enjoyed their sandwiches and salads. If you're missing a bit of your German roots, stop by Mecca and get your cravings sated! Bring your appetite, the portions are hearty.

The Pork Schnitzel sandwich is amazing. 5 stars just for this sandwich. The deli itself is small but has a ton of German items to choose from. I am going to be honest and just tell you I have no idea what most of the stuff is but who cares, this sandwich is amazing.

I've walked past Mecca for many years when shopping in Marina - I'm so sorry I waited so long.
Not only is the staff helpful and friendly, I find their food just perfect. I love a great bratwurst and a hearty Ruben - I've had both, no complaints.
I sampled one of their mustard's - a sweet Bavarian-style, Lowensenf - which they sell at the restaurant and immediately bought two. I've used the mustard for so many foods. My latest is steaming some artichokes and making a aioli dip with the Lowensenf - YUM!
I'm a stickler for a good sauerkraut and am very happy with theirs.
Prices are reasonable, atmosphere charming and casual.
Truly, make it a point to stop in.
